Pastor Ted is an avid skier who enjoys the outdoors, cycling, photography, and when he has time, working with wood or crafting stories. He has a deep passion for mission as he has spent time in a variety of domestic and international mission settings. He married his college sweetheart, Becky, in 1986 and they have one son, Caleb.
Serving the people who worship at Hampton Presbyterian Church is a joy and a thrill for Ted. In his own words, “We share a common vision for ministry.”
There are several layers to the logo for Hampton Presbyterian Church. It is a logo that is designed to draw the eye to continue to look to the cross. Seeking to see Jesus should be an ongoing endeavor for all believers and even those who are questioning. The cross is central to our faith, and it shapes every value that we have in this life. Even as Jesus challenged His disciples, the words echo through the centuries to us today; if we wish to follow Jesus, we must take up our cross and follow Him. And, no greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for a friend.
The cross is not explicit in this logo, but it is implicit in the “negative space”. An object is defined by the negative space that surrounds it; likewise, we are defined by Christ and the work He did upon the cross. As one looks upon the cross out of intrigue, it reflects the manner in which we share the gospel. Our lives in Christ are not ones born out of embarrassment nor are we ones to express our faith in brash arrogance. It is one where people are drawn to the light of Christ, because of our lives that point to the centrality of Jesus’ love for us. Thus, the two predominant arrows coming together depict this. It is when we come together and how we interact with one another that others are able to see Jesus and His gospel message. The other two thinner angled lines add to the two predominant lines to represent the 4 gospels. These gospels serve as the primary vehicle to tell the story of Jesus and His redemptive love that is culminated in the work done on the cross.
The red tone of the cross is significant to Hampton Presbyterian Church. It is also symbolic of the blood of Christ shed for us. Hampton Presbyterian Church has a red cross mounted to the top of the church for all to see, even those travelers upon the PA Turnpike. Our witness is sure.
The green swoop is a reminder that we are positioned on a hill. The nick name of Hampton Presbyterian Church at one time was “The church on the hill”. Christ has told us to let our light so shine before humankind as he preached the Sermon on the Mount. We are a light set on a hill. The Sermon on the Mount is a significant story for Hampton Presbyterian Church as the stained glass window in the sanctuary depicts Jesus walking through the lilies. This is a central analogy that Jesus references as he preached about not worrying and trusting in God’s provision… “consider the lilies of the field…”
The swoop is also indicative of the message going out from our church. It looks like a path going out to the distant horizon, and we are a church that takes the Great Commission seriously. The green color is one that reminds us that we are to be in a posture of growth all the time in our walk with Christ.
The Church Office is open daily (M-F) from 9:00 am-4:30 pm. However, if you need to stop by after 4:30 pm, call ahead and let us know. Members of the church staff are often available after 4:30 pm.
